Ready to Dream Big? Take a Look at the Porsche 991.2 GT3 RS
When nothing else will do but a truly nimble, ultra-high revving, wicked fast Porsche, set your sights on the 991.2 GT3 RS. Built to impress in 2018 and still going to this day, this beastly automobile instantly earned recognition as the fastest non-turbo 911 ever made. Beyond that, it builds upon the look and feel of its predecessors, putting the heart of a racecar into a roadworthy package.
As it’s a definite dream car through and through, the newest 911 GT3 RS is undoubtedly well worth the $187,500 MSRP. Getting your hands on one could prove much more difficult than having that sum of money on tap, however. Ready to start dreaming alongside our Plano, TX auto repair team? Here’s what you need to know about this stunning ride.
Performance for Days
In a solemn nod to yesteryear, the 991.2 GT3 RS repurposes the monster 4.0L Mezger flat-six from the coveted 2011 Porsche GT3 RS 4.0. Although it remains naturally aspirated, they changed up the camshaft timing and spark curve, plus added a titanium exhaust system and a spanking new intake. The result is a 20 horsepower increase and an exhilarating 9,000 RPM redline.
Thanks to those changes, the newly-revised 4.0L powerplant now produces 520 horsepower and 346 lb-ft of torque. With all that power on hand, this car will take you up to 60 in just three seconds. Want to run the ¼ mile? Expect to reach the end in an incredible 11.2 seconds.
When first released, this car only came with Porsche’s seven-speed dual-clutch PDK. While that does offer the most precise shifts for consistent lap times, it’s just not as satisfying as rowing through the gears yourself. In response to enthusiasts who absolutely must take full control of their driving experience, the 2022 model will now have the six-speed manual as an option.
Offering the Full Package
While the powerplant is definitely the heart of the build, the 991.2 GT3 RS is much more than its powertrain. The exquisite exterior styling, luxurious interior, and steady stance ensure this car offers the full package.
Other things you’ll undoubtedly love about this Porsche include:
- Rose-jointed suspension with double the spring rates of the previous RS
- 380mm cross-drilled composite disc brake rotors at all four corners
- Six-piston brake calipers at the front and four-piston calipers at the rear
- Additional NACA ducts on the hood to help cool the brakes
- New front spoiler lip, diffuser, side skirts, and rear wing supports
- Gorgeous GT3 RS decal upgrades all along the side
For an additional $18,000, you can add the Weissach package, while another $13,000 will get you the optional magnesium wheels. Together, they drop the curb weight by 38 pounds, bringing it to a grand total of 3,153 pounds. With that, you can expect to go 0.1 seconds faster from 0 to 60 for a final time of 2.9 seconds.
Need a 991.2 GT3 RS in Your Life?
If you need a 991.2 GT3 RS in your life, you’d better get ready to jump at the chance to buy because Porsche only made 4,880. Although that’s still more than the 996 and 997 generations, it’ll be quite hard to get your hands on the perfect one without quite a search. Thankfully, you still have many other excellent Porsches to keep you busy in the meantime.
